Friday October 7, 2011 a brave group of members followed Allen B into the Canadian wilderness.

We took a train to Agawa Canyon. In the movie clip below you will see us seated in the station with our anticipation building, see the Engineer's view of the tracks and Allen moving to the front to make sure the Engineer stays 'on track', see the thrilling helicopter chase sequence and then kick back and enjoy the rocks and trees of the wilderness.

We have arrived at the Canyon and the chase helicopter gives us a buzz. The more adventurous of our group climb up the the Canyon Lookout.

Thisfall, Michigan, home of the Big Three, will again be presenting the Motor City Corvette Concours. This second annual event will continue toshowcase the “Best of the Best”Corvettes in the area. This year’s chosendate is September 24, 2011 and the location will be Les StanfordChevrolet-Cadillac in Dearborn, Michigan.

Anyonefamiliar with the Corvette lifestyle is no doubt aware of events such as;Corvettes at Carlisle, Bloomington Gold and the National Corvette Homecoming toname but a few. Being that Michigan is the birthplace of Corvette and the homeof Chevrolet and General Motors, it seemed only natural that a high caliberCorvette event be held here. Hence, the Motor City Corvette Concours was born.
Whilethe Motor City Corvette Concours (MCCC) is sponsored and hosted by the LesStanford dealerships, the event continues to be organized by several localMichigan Corvette clubs. The CorvetteClub of Michigan, Corvette Legends Club, Flint Corvette Club, GMC Corvette Set,Rainbow Corvette Club, Team Corvette, Trend Settas Corvette Club and the V-8Estate Corvette Club have banded together to promote and share their passionfor the marque. The continuation of thisevent adds to the writing of another chapter in the glorious history that isthe Corvette.

TheMotor City Corvette Concours is actually three car shows in one. First feature of the event is the ConcoursClass of Corvettes; these cars will appear via invitation only. Second, will be an open judged “Drive &Shine” competition for all Corvette owners based on overall vehicle conditionand cleanliness. Third will be a NationalCouncil of Corvette Clubs (NCCC) sanctioned People’s Choice competition. Being open to all types of Corvette, fromstock to custom, from mild to wild, the MCCC allows the owner to showcase a carthat is special to him or her. Theemphasis of this end of the season gathering is on having the “Best of the Best” Corvettes featured inthe invitation only Concours Class. Toqualify, these Corvettes must compete in a minimum of three affiliated showsthrough-out the spring and summer show season. These cars will be chosen by organizers of those participating shows andare recommended to compete in the MCCC Concours Class.

Workingin concert with the National Corvette Museum, the organizers of the MCCC havedeveloped the Arkus-Duntov Cup Trophy,named in honor of the first Corvette Chief Engineer and father of the Corvette:Zora Arkus-Duntov. Each year the overallwinners name will be affixed to the Arkus-Duntov Cup Trophy and it will bedisplayed at the National Corvette Museum in Bowling Green, Kentucky adjacentto their permanent Arkus-Duntov exhibit. A unique Motor City Corvette Concours special award will also be presentedto the Concours Class winner for his or her personal trophy case. All of the Concours Class entrants willreceive a personalized special commemorative award for theirparticipation. Additional trophies willbe presented for the Judged Competition and People’s Choice portions of theevent.

Military Tribue Camaros

At the Road to Recovery event, there were two very special vehicles - the Military Tribute Camaros - that were brought to the event as a way to honor the Men and Women of America's Armed Forces. The art on the Camaros is original paint and not graphic wraps. Both of the vehicles were custom-airbrushed by world-renowned artist Mickey Harris, airbrusher of 33 years, who put over 100 hours of painting into each vehicle.The Military Tribute Camaro represents all five branches of the Armed Forces on separate sections of the car. The front driver side represents the Army, the rear driver side represents the Navy, the front passenger side represents the Marine Corps, the rear passenger side represents the Air Force, and the trunk section represents the Coast Guard. The Military Tribute Camaro also incorporates some of the military's highest individual awards and current campaign medals - the Distinguished Service Cross, Silver Star, and Afghanistan Campaign Medal on the driver side; the Navy Cross, Bronze Star, and Iraqi Campaign Medal on the passenger side.In honor of Memorial Day, the 2010 Military Tribute Camaros were also displayed at the 2010 Indianapolis 500 race, brought by the GM Military Discount program.

GMC Corvette Set Master Event Calendar

We implemented a Master Calendar for all the GMC Corvette Set Activities on October 30, 2010. This is the top menu item on the Activities Menu. The GMC Corvette Set Board approved this feature for our web site and the appropriate Board Member will maintian the Event information related to their function.

The Events Calendar is a NEW menu pick at the top of the Actvities drop down menu. There is a link at the top right of the calendar page that will give you a full window view of the calendar, one without the web page header.

Please note that you can 1) Click on an Event to see who added the event and to see more details about the event. 2) Move from month to month and change the view between a week and a month. 3) Print a copy of the calendar or save it as a file on your computer. 4) The 'Adgenda' will let you search the Calendar and present the events in a list format.

Members that use a personal Google Calendar may contact the Web Master to request capability to view the Club's Master Calendar on their individual personal calendars.

Google does support their Calendar System with extensive help files. Go to the http://www.google.com/ select "more" and pick Calandar.

Fenton MI - The Beale Street Smoke House

Nineteen (19) of the GMC Corvette Set 'Dun Werk' group met at the Somkehouse for lunch today. We enjoyed Memphis style barbeque and other delights. Some sampled ancient mead.

The Smokehouse is at 2461 North Road, Fenton MI. Exit M23 at exit 80 or turn left off Poplar onto North if approaching from Fenton.

Look sharp the Smokehouse is "Sandwiched between a gas station and a trucking company" or behind the gas station.

The Jazz and Blues group Witch Doctor frequently plays at the Smokehouse. The group is from Ann Arbor.

Corvettes on Woodward

Awesome 400 Corvettes gathered at the Radisson Hotel (formerly Kingsley Inn) back parking lot. Larry Courtney and Friends started this event 2003 . Larry thanked everyone for coming and bringing canned food for the St Johns Church Open Hands Food Pantry. Glenda Lewis from Channel 7 ,interviewed cruisers.The video can be seen on channel 7 website. Look for Cindy B and her car, at the end of interview look for Blanche. Woodward Avenue stop and go, go and stop was the only way to travel. Spectators cheered the cars on. Ten cars and members from the GMC club enjoyed the warms summer cruise. Corvettes ruled Woodward Wednesday Night

Kennedy Center

Six Corvettes,Plus one, parked in the front drive way at the Kennedy Center, this Friday morning. This is a school for disadvantage childern. The D.J. was playing 1950 music and there was popcorn and goodies for sale,raffle tickets were sold and Blanche won a Southern Motor T shirt. The students came on their lunch break to view the corvettes and other cars from the Flaming Pistons Club. Two students were given rides in Chucks corvette. The cars definitely brighten their lunch time and sent them smiling back to class. Due to budget cuts this event has been postponed for a few years, until this year Mr Perry , coordinator brought it back and is already planning next year

Lakevill Inn

Hazy,sunny and hot....the perfect day for Corvettes to cruise to the Lakeville Inn. Assorted colored Corvettes parked in the large lot,made it look more like a large flower bed rather than a place to park cars.Among the bouquet of Corvettes,several other unidentified vehicles were parked to give a touch of contrast. Dark clouds appeared after our arrival,and diverted us from the once sunny deck to a dimly lite room. Oh Well! The chatter was still abundant, topics ranged from trips taken,to when is the next cruise. There are new owners at the Lakeville Inn and sadly this meant deep fried olives and pickles are no more. Some members were disappointed .The staff was pleasant,sparse,and slower than a Sunday driver when you're late for work. The food was excellent and the portions large. Ah...a long lunch,one of the perks of Dun Werkin. Everyone enjoyed the afternoon. The ride home with top down or windows open,completed the day of good food,friends and cars

Happy Birthday Russ

Seems our very own president and fearless leader (that's Russ!), suffered/experienced/had a 60th birthday this past weekend, coincidentally the same day as the Shelby Lions car show at the Packard Proving Grounds.

To commemmorate this auspicious event, two unnamed ladies of the club visited Russ and Carol's house (while they were away, of course) and decorated the front yard with "60 Big Ones," in reality 30 bra's apparently designed for fairly "heavy duty." Strung across the yard between two trees and marked with an appropriate sign, the picture with this blog is "ample" evidence of the magnitude of both Russ' birthday AND the task undertaken by the two unnamed ladies.

Congratulations, Russ, and happy birthday again.....a couple of days later. You're a solid president and leader of our club, and now, with "60 big ones," you have your "hands full." OK, this is even cracking me up.

(myFOXDetroit.com Staff Report) - Bring the kids and come spend the day at the GMC Corvette Car Set Annual Canterbury Corvette Fest. The event will be held at Olde World Canterbury Village, Lake Orion, Saturday, June 19, 2010.
The show is open to Corvettes of all years, stock, modified or custom. The Canterbury Corvette Fest is expecting up to 150 Corvettes to be entered and judged. An additional 50+ club member cars will be on display and are not included in the judged event.

Registration begins at 8:00 a.m. with an Awards Ceremony at 3:00 p.m. Trophies will be awarded for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place in fifteen classifications. General admission to Canterbury Village is free. Participant registration is $20/car in advance or $25/car the day of show. Proceeds from the silent auction will benefit Leader Dogs for the Blind.

Leader Dogs has been the designated charity of the club for many years; the club has donated over $100,000 to Leader Dogs over the years. Membership in the club is open to all persons with an interest in Corvettes and monthly member meetings are held the first Tuesday of each month at the Leader Dogs for the Blind facility in Rochester.
